Slow cooked & full of flavour – meat is certainly on our menu |

The centre of Bristol seems to be chock full of purveyors of the finest meaty delights. They are perfect for a cheap and filling lunchtime treat. The most recent addition is meat seller Ben Warren with his ‘Meat and Bread’ cart. I encouraged Ben to follow his passion way back in the spring and I’m so pleased that he’s up and running. Ben is definitely a ‘man’s man’ and he wanted to keep it simple. He’s selling meat loaded sarnies. With fabulous deluxe fillings like maple cured turkey with beer braised bacon, guac & crispy onions. Ben is a true mobiler, and his cart can be found anywhere between College Green and the central promenade (opp the Hippodrome), so check out Twitter to find out when and where. Two of our StrEAT vendors are in slow cook heaven too. The Whisk! boys followed their instincts and served special pulled pork and slaw in pillow soft buns at our Arnos Vale cemetery night market. They were the first vendor to sell out. And Ross and Ross have brought the sous vide style of cooking to the streets with their melt in the mouth Cotswold lamb with salsa verde. And before you ask, yes, these two are both called Ross! Bagel Boy are firmly in the thick of this meat madness and can be found serving their ‘New York Boy’ a hot salt beef with mustard, sauerkraut and gherkins just inside the Elbow Room on Park Street. It’s a student fave and business has doubled since they arrived in September. ‘Grillstock’ of BBQ festival fame has recently set up a stall inside the fabulous St. Nicks market. Their BBQ joint is serving 18 hour pit-smoked baby back pork ribs & beef brisket by the truckload. It seems that the good folk of Bristol adore this permanent pit stop. Could these guys be the next to go ‘bricks and mortar’ in the style of the mighty MeatLiquor in London? This craze for American style meaty delights shows no sign of waning. I’m so glad Bristol is one of the cities at the forefront of this trend. There’s such an abundance of amazing locally reared produce that it should be revered and cooked with love. Get involved online and check out the ‘Stweet Food Map' for streetfood champion Andy Bates’ new food show ‘Andy Bates: American Street Feasts’ – you’ll see the SW is quite a hot spot.
